Here’s what we have lined up for you this week:
Patty Pan Squash
Hope everyone had a great week and that you’ve all been enjoying the eerie apocalyptic weather since the smoke settled down over the city.
The cooler morning weather has increased our productivity around the farm, but we will have to keep an eye on our eggplants and peppers, as they require lots of heat.
After last week’s update, we received some responses from members discussing their feelings on the subject of some of the difficulties we face at the farmers market. I can definitely say, that we have an amazing community of CSA members, who have been so supportive of us, and have been working to help us get through some of the challenges of year 1. I think the Veggie Box program certainly targets people who are passionate about health, and delicious produce, but also who are aware of the impact of modern agriculture on the environment, local economy and the public’s health. We are trying to think of ways we can continue to bring more attention to this issue and think of better ways of communicating to those who have yet to learn about these problems. This could mean really developing a blog, or maybe writing articles for the news papers. Some farmers make videos! We are open to suggestions on how to increase dialog and spread awareness.
I think if we learnt anything from last weeks email, it was that we want to talk about this subject more and with a larger audience.
Andrew and Sibella
Have you guys ever seen honeybees asleep in flowers before? Andrew sent me a picture this week of a honeybee laying in a flower, and we assumed that it was dead. But after a minute it rolled over and woke up, How cute! I did a quick search as well, and found out that honeybees and bumblebees can often be found snoozing in flowers.
