Hello Veggie Lovers!
Lots has been going on at the farm the last few weeks. We have been busy preparing garden beds for all the crops that have already sprouted and are ready to start growing.
Our tomatoes have been growing outrageously quickly. Everyday they seem to grow a couple inches and thicker and darker green. We learned the hard way that if the plants grow too close together, they will shade out their neighbouring plants and cause them to grow too long and lanky.

We have been fighting against the weeds, but so far our crops look as happy as clams in their soil! With day-time temperatures slowly rising, we should see lots of growth over the next few weeks.
Some of the things we have in the field include:
We have lots more in our propagation greenhouse waiting to get planted.
Another fun project we have on the go, is we are building a walk-in-cooler to house all of our harvested veggies that need to be chilled!
The trailer we purchased is a bit too short, so it is now being named our crawl-in cooler instead.
To build the cooler, we cut a hole in the trailer to house an air conditioning unit. We then insulate the trailer using lots of rigid foam.
Once it’s insulated, we use a little computer called a Cool-bot, which tricks the air conditioner into thinking it needs to continuously cool the space until it’s as cold as a refrigerator! This technology will help us save a lot of money compared to traditional walk-in coolers and will allow us to transport perfectly chilled produce to you. This will ensure it’s as fresh as possible and lasts in the fridge as well.
We can’t wait for our first harvest and to finally give you all your veggies at last. It’s been a long-time coming but we are only mere weeks away from the first CSA date!
Yours in Farming,
Andrew and Sibella
